School and college students take part in mini-marathon



           
                
THURAIYUR: A large number of school and college students took part in the mini-marathon held here on Saturday to create awareness among the people in general and the youths in particular of library movement and the ill-effects of global warming.
The mini-marathon held in two categories – below 15 years and above 15 years - was organised jointly by the Readers' Forum of Branch Library here and the Officers' Club of Thuraiyur.
Collector T.Soundiah flagged it off near the taluk office.
A.P.Sivakumar, Tiruchi District Library Officer, said that about 2,000 college and school students took part. Students below 15 years of age ran 3.5 km from taluk office and returned to the starting point via Tiruchi road, Palakkarai and Perumal temple.
Those above 15 years of age covered eight km.
S.Palanisamy, a student of Jairam Engineering College, won the first prize in the above 15 years category and K.Karunanidhi of Zamindar Matriculation Higher Secondary School, Thuraiyur bagged the first prize in the below 15 years.
Mr. Sivakumar distributed prizes to the winners.

T.Natarajan and Madhavan, Forum president and treasurer of Thuraiyur Government branch library, T.Krishnamoorthy, secretary of Officers' Club of Thuraiyur and B.Balasundaram, librarian of the Thuraiyur branch library offered felicitations.
